The event will be run during school hours and later that night. Seniors will help demonstrate activities and lead the school in developing their science skills through hands on activities and the night will involve a race “mission” to the Moon, winner being drawn out of a hat “rocket”.

Launching into Science will run during school hours and will be videoed so it can be shown on open night, showcasing the activities conducted throughout the day by the students to the wider community. The activities lead by the seniors will involve Prep to Year 6 and include a rotation of engaging, hands on activities, experiments and problem solving projects which demonstrate a wide range of the curriculum further developing passion and knowledge for everything that science has to offer.

During the day, these activities will challenge those to think deeper, problem solve and predict outcomes based on their observations and prior knowledge. The Year 5/6 students will work alongside teachers to demonstrate activities and each group will consist of house groups, ensuring there is a mixture of year levels, so the older students may assist the younger ones.

The open night will involve a race “mission” to the moon, where each participant will receive clues at each station upon completion, getting them closer to the ‘moon’. The winner will be drawn out of a hat “rocket” at the end of the night.
