Magnificent Microscopy: Life Under a Lens

12 August 2018 @ 10:00 am3:00 pm

Free

Meet scientists, view their research samples using powerful microscopes, and discuss how their investigations are combatting important global problems. Investigate your own samples! Scientist mentors will help you investigate nature’s beauty in microscopic detail using research grade microscopes.

GTAC (Melbourne) hosts two 2 hour sessions of Magnificent Microscopy: Life under a lens on Sunday 12th August 2018. To offer the public to engage directly with practising scientists to learn about advances in life sciences, and experience first-hand the insights gained using microscopes.

Families meet world leading scientists and view microscopic samples used to research some of the most important issues facing society today. STEM researchers guide participants through the emerging advances in fields as Alzheimer’s disease, GM foods, vaccination, and treatments for cancers by demonstrating the research specimens.

Attendees bring samples in to examine using GTAC’s research grade microscopes, including scanning electron microscopes, powerful light and fluorescence microscopes, and dissecting microscopes. Trained mentors and GTAC educators help participants view samples, capture images and stimulate discussion.
