16 August 2018 @ 9:00 am6:00 pm

Free

The course will teach the essential skills and strategies needed to convey the fruits of mathematical research to the media, government, research-funding bodies and the public.

The one-day mathematics workshop starts at 9am and concludes at 5pm.

Among other things, the comprehensive course will cover fundamental principles of communicating the basics of mathematics. Participants will be taken through the rudiments of linear algebra and calculus, thus equipping them with the confidence and media savvy required to explain and communicate mathematics clearly and simply to STEM students and others.

Hands-on training will be provided in talking about mathematics and writing about it for many outlets, including in-house, local and international publications and the digital media.

Examples will be drawn from key mathematics textbooks by leading publishers.

Participants completing the course will acquire valuable skills, including those needed to liaise with mathematics students and prepare successful textbooks.

Worked examples, reference materials, background notes and a certificate will be provided.
