Platypus and the Changing Environment – What’s Needed to Help Populations Thrive in Future?
1 April 2021 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
What do platypus like to eat and where do they prefer to live? These fascinating and iconic animals feed only in water. In this presentation two scientists who have studied them from different perspectives, will bust myths about platypuses being fussy feeders who require pristine habitat.
Learn how we can all contribute to making our rivers a better place for platypus. Dr Richard Marchant (Senior Curator, Entomology, Museums Victoria) and Dr Melody Serena (Conservation Biologist, Australian Platypus Conservancy) will discuss the factors vital to maintain healthy platypus populations, based on over 30 years research in Victoria and NSW. Followed by discussion and questions from the audience.
Presented as part of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria’s Climate Change and Environment Program.
